Futura Medical Plc Announces FLD500 scale-up trials

Futura Medical plc (AIM: FUM) the pharmaceutical and medical device group that develops innovative products for the sexual health market, announces pilot scale-up trials of its Female Lubrication Device (FLD500) ahead of dossier submission for the product's regulatory approval.

A successful outcome of these trials will facilitate the submission to EU regulators during the first quarter of 2007 for FLD500's marketing authorisation.

FLD500 is a standard Durex® 'easy on' condom with a thin elastomer coating containing an active compound on the outer surface to promote greater natural lubrication and heightened pleasure for women. Currently up to 40% of condoms sold within the UK are bought by women.

Following encouraging initial stability and compatibility results on the product in laboratory studies, SSL International plc, the consumer healthcare brands company that manufactures and distributes Durex®, will be conducting trials this month.

James Barder, Chief Executive of Futura, said: "This is an important step towards the submission of the regulatory dossier for FLD500 and will be the first condom product targeted to improve the sex lives of women."
